A Change in Use

In July 1942, the Dossinkazerne was given a change of use. It was now to be used as a transit camp for Jews and Roma people who were being deported to extermination camps in Eastern Europe.

A Dark History

The Dossinkazerne is a former military barracks located in Mechelen, Belgium. The barracks were built in the late 19th century and were used by the Belgian army until the outbreak of the First World War.

During the German occupation of Belgium in the Second World War, the Dossinkazerne was used as a transit camp for Jews and Roma people who were being deported to extermination camps in Eastern Europe.

A Place of Remembrance

Today, the Dossinkazerne is a museum and memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. The museum tells the story of the transit camp and the people who were held there.

The Dossinkazerne is a reminder of the horrors of the Holocaust and the importance of fighting against intolerance and persecution.
