Cleveland Browns Quarterback 2023

Browns Planning Ahead, Exploring Backup Quarterbacks Amid Uncertainty

Deshaun Watson's Availability Remains a Question Mark

Dobbs and Mond Compete for Backup Roles

The Cleveland Browns are navigating a complex quarterback situation as they prepare for the 2023 season. Despite having Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback, the team is reportedly exploring backup options due to Watson's uncertain availability.

Watson, who led the Browns to a 31-27 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday, has been the subject of numerous trade rumors in recent weeks. With Watson's legal situation still unresolved, the Browns are considering their options in case he faces a suspension or further discipline.

Among the potential backup quarterbacks being considered are Joshua Dobbs and Kellen Mond. Dobbs, a former Browns draft pick, has spent the past few seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Mond is a former third-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings.

Both Dobbs and Mond have limited starting experience, but they have shown flashes of potential. Dobbs started four games for the Browns in 2020, completing 60% of his passes for 1,024 yards and four touchdowns. Mond started four games for the Vikings in 2021, throwing for 616 yards and two touchdowns.

The Browns are also reportedly interested in Joe Flacco, who led the team to the playoffs with five late-season starts after Watson's injury. However, Flacco is currently a free agent and may not be interested in returning to Cleveland.

With the Browns facing a huge challenge in 2023 after a disappointing 2022 season, the team's quarterback situation will be a major storyline to follow in the coming weeks and months.
